SPOTLIGHT WRITER: ALIA

Characters: Jenny Thomas, Anna Wallace, Gina Lutz, Kaida Takadai, Jackson Street, Melody Guthrie and Kitty Pryde

Thread that best shows off your writing: Training? and Jinxed.

Writing strengths? Quick responses with meat (so not just a few words). Digging into characters motivations a bit.

What are you working on as a writer? Making my posts longer, using different words and really trying to find ways of digging in further to the characters psyche.

What were the biggest influences to your writing? Heinlein, Lucas, Herbert, JMS, Whedon.

Favorite X-men storyline/comic/artist/series? Storyline: Reaching way way back is probably the inital Brood one or the original Dark Phoenix. Single issue comic: Uncanny X-Men 303; it was the first one that I ever picked up. Artists: Oh god, The Kurbert brothers (Andy and Adam); Silvestri; Madureira; Cockrim; Byrne; Lee (I keep telling you all I have problems choosing!). Series: Original New Mutants and Generation X. Uncanny comes in third just because it's the original.

What drew you to BMF? KEL! We had a game together that died and I told her I missed gaming with her so she sent me this site.

What is your favorite aspect of BMF? The community. The fact that people work together to create plots and interconnected characters. That ideas aren't just 'no' but willing to be worked with. And the unique application.

Where would you like to see BMF go in the future? Anywhere it can. More plots. More posts. To grow and get bigger and take over the world...

Expectation:

BMF is a place to have fun and for writers to challenge themselves in a variety of settings. We expect everyone to treat one another with the respect. Although IC conflict and animosity make a good story, they will not be permitted OOC. If the any of the Staff see it, they will step in. If you as a writer see it, please bring this to the attention of staff.

Any X-men site is going to involve themes of hatred, racism and violence. While racial slurs and hateful language (of any kind) may be used in character within reason, it is not to be carried OOC in any form. Any use of slurs OOC will result the player being immediately banned.

Everyone has those times where their life seems to be falling apart, and while we sympathize and will be happy to commiserate, the BMF cbox, AIM group chat and forums are not the place to vent. It doesn't mean you can't mention you are having a bad day, but don't monopolize time on BMF for the subject. Please use IM, Email or some other means of communication.

All characters and play-bys on BMF must be at least 13 years of age.

Canons:

If you’re applying for a canon character that comes complete with history, whether they were written on BMF in the past, if they are on our pre-approved canon list, or if they are a character from the comics that you are bringing to BMF as a new canon, any existing relationships with canons already on the site must be discussed with the writers of those characters. If you are unsure at the time you are applying if a character is on BMF, please ask a staff member for more information.

When you are applying for a listed canon character on BMF, you must use the pre-approved powers listed in the Canon List under the character. If you wish to change these powers from how they are written here, or if your canon’s powers are not listed on the canon list, please contact an Admin with the changes or with a powers write up to be looked at for approval.

Canon’s not on our pre-approved list are still very welcome: for their powers please use our OC powers list and points system, if the canon’s powers are not listed please contact an Admin with a write up to be looked at for approval. (BMF is a low power site, please use the OC powers as a gauge to what we will accept in new powers.)

*Relationships with canons not on the board currently need to be kept ambiguous until that canon is on the board.

**Any connection to a character must be discussed and approved by the writer of the character, canon or not.

***New and prospective writers can start a thread in our Question and request forum asking for existing or new relationships with the character. (You do not need to wait for replies before completing your application, however anything not cleared with the existing writers cannot be referenced.)

Activity:

Characters involved in a plot/subplot are expected to post a minimum of twice a week. BMF considers any thread with 3+ characters in it a subplot thread. If a character is not currently involved in any plot, we ask they be active in finding a plot in which to take part. If an attempt to find a plot has been made and there are none available, talk to staff, chat in the cbox or our AIM group to see about finding one.

*For more information about Canon Activity requirements by the month as well as which characters are not allowed for a new writer to start out with on BMF, please visit our Canon Activity Rule announcement here.

Any plots held up for more than 3 days may be moved along with a fast forward post. Repeated use of the Fast Forward for one writer will be addressed by staff. Please respect others and staff and do not ‘nag’ another player for a posts through cbox, PM or IM.

If you believe you have taken on too many characters, go to an admin and discuss possibilities. We will see what we can work out. Often, we might even refund some of the Angst points on the character to another of your choosing. In order to do this fairly, we would need to be contacted.

We do not have a character limit here at BMF, but each writer is expected to stay current in all of their threads and plots. In order to apply for secondary characters, player must earn the appropriate levels of angst to buy a new character. For more information on the bank, please check here.

Intellectual Property:

Be original; no cloning or plagiarizing allowed. A clone character is a character from another genre, literature or movie with few changes made to the character details. Example: Fony Stark who is a playboy billionaire who owns a recycling conglomerate and uses the refuse to make powerful suits of armor. Codename: Tinman. If we see it, we will put a stop to it. If you see it, tell staff so we can investigate. If you are worried your character is a possible clone, or are not clear on what a clone character is, contact staff.

With the exceptions of relatives already listed on the canon list, all relatives to established BMF characters or Canons need to be cleared by the writer of the affected canon and an Admin first.

Make sure you have checked the face claim section to make sure you’re not using a face claim that is already in use. Actors, models and musicians are all acceptable as long as they are over the age of 13. If there is a question about the age, the face claim will be denied. Comic book, anime, or cartoon images as well as any images from Deviant Art, Facebook or MySpace are banned.

Roleplaying:

This site is rated PG-13 or 2/2/2 on the RPG Rating System. Mature content is not allowed, please refer to for what jcink considers mature content to be. This is very close to how the RPG Rating System defines acceptable content.

While the rating allows for violence with explicit description, BMF does not allow graphic violence (torture, rape, etc) against a person who is unable to act in their own best interest. It can be referenced, but is not to be detailed.

If you have any questions about what is acceptable on BMF, contact Staff before posting it.

BMF has a word count of 200 words per post, with the expectation that each post will either advance the plot or develop your character. In addition, it is expected that RP partners will communicate their expectations about posting and length matching. If the staff start to get complaints that someone’s posting doesn't provide sufficient details forcing one writer to carry the thread, appropriate action will be taken.

In order to get an idea of what we are looking for in a writer on BMF, read the following articles:
COOPERATIVE STORYTELLING
and
GODMODDING, METAGAMING AND POWERPLAYING

If staff believes that the standards listed in these articles are not being met, staff may contact you.

If your character speaks a foreign language and you use something like Google Translate to make it authentic, please make sure you note at the bottom of the post what was said in English.

BMF utilizes a calendar to keep threads in order and the plot moving. Each of your threads must have the date and time noted in the thread description along with any character tags.
